So, in case you weren’t aware, I am currently working on a poetry book to be released in October. What kind of poetry book and why October, you ask? Excellent questions and I shall answer them below. I will also link a preview to the book as well; it’s not much, I only put three poems in the preview but I think they pretty much sum up the whole feel and direction I want the book to go in.
Now, on to the important stuff…
(don’t mind me while I ask myself some questions then proceed to answer them)
Q: Why did you decide to do a poetry book?
A: To be honest, I’ve always wanted to publish a book. I’ve been writing since 6th grade and it’s always been sort of a dream of mine. I’ve written a lot of things since then, including one finished, cringy, high school drama book. It was the only book I’ve ever finish and I cringe every time I read it over. Although I’ve never finished another story since then, I’ve always remained constant with my poetry; they’re short, to the point and I can just write from the heart. So, then it came to me since I can’t finish a full book and I’m always writing poems, why not combine the two?
Q: What is “A Life in Parts” even about?
A: As the title entails, “A Life in Parts” is about- you guessed it! Life. More specifically, my life- in poetic form. I wanted to do something that felt real. I was always better at writing from the heart. I figured that I could just write a whole bunch of poems, all pertaining to events in my life, my emotions, my thoughts, and experiences and put them in chronological order to form a sort of story. My story. Nothing glorified. Nothing edited. Just raw. So, in a sense, it’s a biography. A poetic biography, if you will. If such thing even exists. haha 😛
Q: Why did you decide to release it in October?
A: I was so looking forward to this question! Okay, so first off, I L-O-V-E the autumn season. It is my absolute favorite season. Leaves changing colors, sweaters, apples, pumpkins, HALLOWEEN, boots and pies? OH, YES! But on to the serious answer now. When I picture someone reading my book, I see a fireplace, warm socks, blankets and maybe some indie music in the background. I picture someone reading this on a slow day when they’ve got some spare time to relax and think because that’s the sort of emotion I want to evoke; a thinking atmosphere. The kind of comfort you get when you’re reading a coming of age book because that’s essentially what it is.
Q: What do you want readers to get from this book?
A: I want this book to make people love more. Not just because it’s right and just but because we need it. I want this book to help people appreciate others. I want this book to breed acceptance. I want this book to inspire readers to appreciate those individuals in their lives who are a bit different. I want this book to inspire parents to accept their kids for who they are and what they want to do. Not force them into a life that they won’t be happy with. Most of all, I want this book to inspire others to spread happiness. We’re all unhappy. This book comes from a place unhappiness and extreme loneliness. It’s a terrible feeling but that’s not what I want others to get from it. I want readers to see the void in the book, in me, in others and try their best to help fill it. Even if all you can do is give someone a hug. The smallest thing counts.
Well, that’s all for the Q&A with myself. That was draining, haha. Anywhooooo, I look forward to publishing this book. Hopefully, it’s successful! Peace and love.
